The company operates a unique reverse supply chain where the product flow begins with donors rather than manufacturers, requiring sophisticated orchestration to maintain optimal collection levels.
The Situation
Unlike traditional supply chains, CSL Plasma operates within an exacting operational sweet spot: plasma collection centers must maintain 95-101% of monthly processing capacity. This creates a dual-constraint challenge where collecting below 95% leaves valuable processing capacity untapped and revenue unrealized, while exceeding 101% risks precious plasma going to waste due to cold storage limitations.
Think of it as a critically-timed collection ecosystem where plasma—a critical but highly perishable biological resource—demands perfect orchestration between donor engagement and processing capacity.
